In 2004, Pack 216 was established with the First Cub Scout Leader , Mr. Quốc as the Cub Master; later, two more scout leaders, Mr. Bắc and Mr. Huy joined as Cub Master Assistants. At the time, the pack only consisted of about 10 cubs. The cubs only met and learned a few scouting skills; they mainly played at meetings. By 2007, more leaders were needed as there were quite a few more children joined the pack, so Trưởng Kiệt (Liên Đoàn Trưởng) asked Trưởng John Huỳnh to join the pack as a leader. Starting from that year, the pack leaders ran the Bobcat and Webelos for the age-appropriate cub scouts. Parents were recruited to help with the Tiger, Wolf and Bear ranks to work on the advancements in their handbooks. Once the scouts finished their advancements, the leaders would award them with the appropriate patches. Our Pack 216 was named in Vietnamese as Ấu Đoàn - Phù Đổng. Phù Đổng or Thánh Gióng is one of the legends in Vietnamese Cultural History as a young strong toddler who growth-up to become a super soldier riding iron horse, to depend Vietnam from enermy. Once all of his swords and weapon were all broken, he used the bamboo trees as the weapon to fight. When the war was end, he ride his iron-horse to heaven. Therefore, our pack named as Phù Đổng, to represent the super power of the young toddlers who will be strong and brave.
During meeting, the pack is divided into small teams that Vietnamese Scouting called “đàn” (dens that are identified by color). The pack had 4 colored dens - Đàn: White - Trắng, Gray - Xám, Brown - Nâu, Black - Đen, according to Vietnamese Scouting tradition. Each colored-den has a den chief and assistant den chief. The cub scouts are evenly divided into the colored-dens with all age groups. The main goal of the Cub scouting program is to have fun and learn at the same time. The children will learn the law of the pack, the Cub Scout promise, proper conducts, games, camping, hiking, sports, scouting skills and first aid. On weekly basis, adult leaders will teach scout specific skills such as Morse codes, signage, knots, etc.. and Scout songs in Vietnamese and English. For each month, there will be a big game to help the Cub Scouts review their learning.
